Vision Coverage
Your eyesight impacts your interaction with the world. Failing sight can lead to vehicle accidents, headaches, and a host of other failures of varying consequence. Most eye care issues are preventable and/or treatable. Like all facets of health, you want to get into a steady care and maintenance routine that prevents serious developments and allows you to be your best.
Canadian Provincial health care programs vary in their Vision coverage. In Ontario, OHIP covers the cost of one major eye exam (for vision and general eye health) every 12 months, plus any minor assessments you need, for those 19 years and younger or 65 years and older. If you are 20 to 64 years old, and you have a specific medical condition affecting your eyes that requires regular monitoring, OHIP will cover a major eye exam for you once every 12 months and any follow-up appointments related to the condition. OHIP and other provincial health programs do not cover eyeglasses, contact lenses, laser eye surgery, and eye exams for Ontarians between ages 20 and 64.
